Clear Aligners Brisbane: FAQs
How does Invisalign / clear aligner treatment work?
Invisalign / clear aligners use advanced 3D computer imaging to map out your entire treatment plan, from your teeth’s current position to their desired final position.
Based on this plan, a series of custom-made, clear aligners are created specifically for you. The aligners move teeth through a series of carefully planned, gentle adjustments. Each aligner is slightly different from the last, applying controlled pressure to specific teeth. This gradual pressure guides teeth into their new positions step by step.
What is the difference between clear aligners and traditional braces?
Clear aligners are smooth, virtually invisible aligners that can be taken out for eating, brushing and special occasions. Because there are no metal brackets or wires, they’re usually more comfortable and easier to keep clean. Many patients choose the aesthetic of clear aligners because they are practically invisible. They are a discreet solution to solve some dental issues, such as crooked teeth or an underbite.Â
Traditional braces, on the other hand, use fixed metal or ceramic brackets and wires that stay on your teeth for the entire treatment time. They’re very effective for complex cases but can be more noticeable and may make cleaning your teeth more challenging.Â
Both options can achieve excellent results. As a form of cosmetic dentistry, The Australian Dental Association (ADA) advises clear aligners are one of the most popular ways to improve your smile and confidence. The best choice depends on your individual needs, lifestyle and your dentist’s recommendation.
Does Invisalign / clear aligner treatment hurt?
It’s normal to feel some mild discomfort or pressure when you first start wearing your aligners or switch to a new set of aligner trays. This sensation is a sign that your aligners are gently moving your teeth into position. The discomfort typically eases after a few days as your mouth adjusts. Most patients describe it as mild and far less noticeable than the discomfort often associated with braces.
How many sets of aligners will I need during treatment?
The number of aligners you’ll need varies for each person, depending on their treatment length. On average, most clear aligner treatments involve anywhere from 10 to 40 sets of aligners.
- Mild cases (such as minor crowding or spacing) may only require around 10–15 aligners.
- Moderate cases may need 20–30 aligners.
- More complex treatments can involve 40 or more aligners and may take 12–24 months to complete.
Each aligner progressively moves your teeth and is typically worn for 1–2 weeks before moving to the next one in your series. Your dentist or orthodontist will review your progress at regular intervals and may adjust your treatment plan if needed.
Will my private health insurance cover the cost of my clear aligner treatment?
Your private health insurance may provide a rebate for Invisalign treatment, but the amount depends on your policy and level of Extras cover. Some funds offer a set amount each calendar year, while others apply a lifetime limit for orthodontic treatment.
It’s best to check your policy or contact your health fund directly to confirm:
Whether orthodontic treatment is included under your Extras cover
How much you can claim each year
What your lifetime limit for orthodontics is (if applicable)
This will give you a clear idea of how much your insurer can contribute toward your Invisalign treatment.
Do you have payment plans?
Yes! We offer several payment plan options, including Afterpay, DentiCare, Humm/National Dental Plan, ZipMoney, Medipay and TLC.
Depending on the option you choose, you can usually spread a large portion of your treatment cost over 6–24 months, making your clear aligner treatment more affordable and manageable.
