Teeth can be lost due to a number of reasons such as accidents or extractions.

If you have lost a tooth or are in need of an extraction – not to worry! This tooth can be replaced. And at Aperture Dental, we now offer one of the most efficient ways to replace missing teeth: dental implants.

Dental implants are a fantastic restoration option. Not only are they incredibly durable with a natural appearance – but they can also last a lifetime provided they are cared for properly!

One of the primary benefits of this procedure is that it restores full chewing ability and is fixed and secure – no more awkward slipping restorations that can fall out of place. Dental implants look and feel so natural that many patients report not being able to tell the difference between their natural teeth and their implants.

How do dental implants work?

A dental implant is a titanium post that is placed into the gum. This piece of the restoration acts as a tooth root and is surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath the gum line by your dentist. Once the gum has healed over the implant, a false tooth is then screwed onto this post – giving you a natural-looking, seamless smile.

Unlike a denture, dental implants do not come loose. Dental implants also benefit general oral health because they do not have to be anchored to other teeth, like bridges.

Typically, the procedure takes place over the space of 2 appointments (3 if you count your initial consultation).

Types of Dental Implants

There are different types of procedures when it comes to dental implants, the main ones include:

Single tooth replacement

The name suggests the nature of this restoration. It is an implant replacing a single missing tooth. This usually takes a minimum of 2 appointments to complete the procedure.

Multiple teeth replacement

If you are missing multiple teeth, this can still be fixed with dental implants. Multiple implants can be done regardless of whether you have random or adjacent teeth missing.

All teeth replacement

It is possible to replace an entire set of teeth with dental implants. This is called a full arch dental implant and can be done with the same level of comfort as with a single tooth implant.

If you are looking to replace a missing tooth, considering a dental implant will prove to be a fantastic option. Your dentist will be able to adequately determine your candidacy for this type of restoration.
