Aperture Dental in Sunnybank Hills offer dental implant treatments that can restore your smile and your dental health

Anyone who has ever lost one, or many teeth can testify to just how traumatic it can be. Dental implants are the most effective way to replacing your missing teeth. To smile freely is one of life’s small pleasures and there is no reason why anyone should have to censor their moments of joy. Here at Aperture Dental, we are passionate about making a positive, tangible difference to your smile, oral health and your general wellbeing.

What Are Dental Implants and How Do They Work?

The common wisdom has always been that you should take care of your teeth because you only get one set of them in your adult life. While this is very true, and we should always do our very best to maintain our dental health, there are a variety of factors that can lead to the loss of teeth over time. Essentially, a dental implant will replace your original tooth in both an aesthetic and functional capacity. The implant will also serve to improve your dental and general health.

The implants themselves are what takes the place of the root of the missing tooth. It also provides the platform for the crown to be attached as the on top to replace the visible part of the tooth. Dental implants are incredibly durable and are built to last. They function like a normal tooth in every way possible. Dental implants can also have a positive impact on the bone structure of your face and even prevent the signs of ageing.

You see, when the bone in your jaw is missing a tooth, that area won’t receive sufficient stimulation and will eventually begin to dissolve as a result of this inactivity. This can cause your face to sag and cause other areas of the face to cave inward and give you a dramatically older appearance. Dental implants will also allow you to eat all your favourite (and healthy) foods as you will be able to chew and digest them properly, thus increasing your capacity for general wellness.

How Does Dental Implant Treatment Work?

During your initial consultation with us, we will conduct several imaging investigations in order for us to fully assess the quantity and structural integrity of your jaw bone. These exams will also show the position of other vital structures in the treatment area. This will be done using an orthopatomogram (OPG) to gather information by x-ray and a cone beam CT which will show a 3-dimensional representation of the area. Naturally, we will also delve into your medical history to ensure there are no complications that may affect your ability to heal or bleeding.

Impressions of both the upper and lower jaw will be made to aid the planning process. We will fabricate extensive stents and guides in conjunction with a temporary prosthesis to fill the gap during the healing process. After three – six months of the implant being inserted into the root, we will check that they are properly in place before attaching your brand-new crown. This will likely happen a few weeks after we have made sure everything is as it should be.
